Speaker of the House Jason Wentworth today released the following statement after learning of the passing of the former congressman Paul Mitchell:
“Paul Mitchell was a great representative who passionately fought for the people he served. He earned his reputation for caring deeply about the issues and about his community, and his passing will be felt every person and every cause he leaves behind. I am glad I was fortunate to know him and see his energy up close. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as go through this difficult time.”
The Michigan Legislature yesterday finished up work on the new state budget that will go into effect this fall. The state House passed the bills with large bipartisan majorities. After wrapping up negotiations with the governor and the state Senate, Speaker of the House Jason Wentworth (R-Farwell) today highlighted some of the ways in which Northern Michigan will benefit from the agreement.

LANSING, Mich. — Legislative Republicans on Thursday approved $2.5 billion in relief for Michigan residents, providing help for individuals, families, seniors and military veterans struggling to afford the economy under Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
