Rep. Diana Farrington, R-Utica; audio on new high school financial literacy requirement
RELEASE|September 8, 2022

Rep. Farrington says that when 8th graders return to class this time next year, a new state law will require them and the classes following them to complete a half-credit personal finance course to graduate from high school. The plan, Public Act 105 of 2022, was approved by the Legislature and signed into law over the summer. At the discretion of local school boards, the personal finance requirement may fulfill a half credit of the four-credit mathematics requirement, the two-credit language other than English requirement, or the one-credit visual, performing, or applied arts requirement.
